May 8th, 2014After Auction, Love Nightclub Is Up for Sale Again!Written by DC Fab
It doesn’t get any more confusing than this: After an anonymous bidder — who has now been identified as developer Douglas Jemal — bought Love Nightclub at an auction last week for $5 million dollars, the Northeast club is up for sale again!According to the Washington Times, Jemal thought the sale would be approved in U.S. Bankruptcy Court Tuesday, but it wasn’t. Not only was current owner Dean Smothers objecting to the sale, Jeffrey Sibert said he’d be willing to buy the nightclub for $7 million. Not to mention, someone accused the auctioning house of purposely keeping the sale price low.Twenty buyers toured the property, but only Jemal bid. “Fast forward to the day of the auction and there is one bidder and one bid — which was the entity of Mr. Jemal,” attorney Jeffrey Sherman said. “Something is rotten in the state of Denmark, we just can’t put our finger on it.”“We know this building is worth $7 to $10 million,” former owner Marc Barnes, who was there Tuesday, said in court. “There are another $1.3 million worth of creditors who would really use that $7 million that the building could draw.”In DC Fab,Featured,Lounges,Nightclubs Dean SmothersDouglas Jemal,Jeffrey SibertLove NightclubMarc Barnes
